We’re a six-month-old brand in 100 locations, all in New York through our own DSD and a local NY distributor, Hudson Harvest.
Our goal was to prove our retail velocity (ask us about that!), and now we’re ready to expand!
Why BEZI?
We’re Ilay and Hasan, two cheese-loving founders who grew up in Turkey, where labneh is a beloved staple.
Ilay, a McKinsey consultant turned cheesemaker, moved to New York from Istanbul to pursue her MBA. During that time, she followed her passion and worked on a farm milking cows and sheep and learned the art of making cheese from scratch.
She even started experimenting with creating a healthy cream cheese, so much so that her friends began calling her “Cheeselady.” While the finances didn’t quite work out at that time, Ilay returned to McKinsey's New York office, but her passion for cheese remained.
Hasan, on the other hand, is a Berkeley engineer and an heir to one of Turkey's largest cheesemaking families.
His grandfather, known as "The Cheese King" in Turkey, built the Bahcivan Gida factory from the ground up, transforming it into an empire.
Our paths serendipitously crossed at our previous job, and we bonded over our shared passion for dairy. Together, we embarked on a mission to make labneh a thing in the US and created BEZI: labneh that labnehs better than any other labneh out there.
We’re incredibly humbled to have won NOSH’s Best New Product of 2024 and KeHe’s TrendFinder in just three months!
How do we make BEZI?
BEZI is a combination of Turkish tradition with cutting-edge dairy technology to produce the freshest labneh, free from preservatives but with a long shelf life (270 days!). So, we took what we created in our NYC kitchen, to our factory in Luleburgaz, Turkey.
Our recipe combines milk, cream, and culture, using a proprietary ultrafiltration method that delivers smooth, no tang labneh with twice the protein of leading brands. Our labneh has protein similar to hummus but with half the calories.
This is made possible by our own state-of-the-art factory near the Greece-Turkey border, with a co-packer who’s also a co-founder, Bahcivan Gida. With the capacity to produce 300 tons of labneh per month, our unique recipe and high-capacity production set us apart from typical emerging brands.
